Fall has always been my favorite season. The time when everything bursts with its last beauty, as if nature had been saving up all year for the grand finale.

It’s perfectly fine if you feel your experiences of discomfort or comfort are “not strong enough” to fit under the label of dysphoria or euphoria. You can just label them as discomfort/disease/unhappiness or comfort/ease/happiness. Whatever you feel accurately describes how you feel.

We define our own experiences. Even if you may technically fall under a label, it’s okay to define that experience for yourself.

And if that’s also a step to being able to admit you experience dysphoria or euphoria, that’s fine, too. Take things at your own pace. (This does not have to be an end goal or the end of the path. It’s just another option.)

“You, darkness, of whom I am born— I love you more than the flame that limits the world to the circle it illumines and excludes all the rest.”

Rainer Maria Rilke, from The Book Of A Monastic Life: I, 11 in “Rilke’s Book Of Hours: Love Poems To God” [translated by Anita Barrows and Joanna Macy]

Du Dunkelheit, aus der ich stamme,
ich liebe dich mehr als die Flamme,
welche die Welt begrenzt,
indem sie glänzt
für irgend einen Kreis,
aus dem heraus kein Wesen von ihr weiß.
